Indian Territory Chapter History
Quail Forever (QF), started in 2005, has quickly become a prominent organization in the quail regions of the US. Taking the years of experience from Pheasants Forever, QF has already made great strides in re-establishing quail populations and educating the farmers and landowners on the best practices in the quail range.
The Indian Territory Chapter of QF was started in 2006. In order to support our mission, we had to raise money. The funding has been raised in various ways, but the majority of the funding has been raised via our Annual Banquets. So far we have had two successful banquets that have provided enough funding for us to support our mission.
A portion of the funding was then put into good use sponsoring three successful Youth Day Events. Each more successful than the last, the Youth Day Events and Shotgun Training Education Program (STEP) Shoots focus on gun safety and education. In addition, the participants are provided hands on training in shooting shotguns (clay targets), .22 caliber (stationary targets), BB guns (stationary targets), and Archery (stationary targets).
Our chapter has proudly provided labor and funding for a number local conservation projects including;
- Conducted five controlled Co-Op burns for private land owners and one 800 acre controlled burn at Spavinaw Wildlife Management Area in conjunction with the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation.
- Our chapter donated $2,500.00 to the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation for Quail Habitat support at the Oolagah Wildlife Management Area. With matching grants from other donors a total of $10,000.00 was donated .
- We have also partnered with the Grand River Dam Authority (GRDA) for the Private Owners Working for Eco Restoration (POWER). The POWER program increases Quail habitat by restoring high line right of ways with native grasses. Our chapter was proud to be a part of this pilot program that may become a nationwide action.
